Sometimes when a game is designed for “2 – 5 players”, certain sacrifices are made in terms of game design to allow the game to scale. Often a game is actually designed to play best for 3 – 4 players but due to marketing pressure a “two player variant” was shoehorned in at the last minute (I’m looking at you, 7 Wonders).
This category is reserved for games that are designed specifically as a two player experience. Not games that can play two players, but games that can only play two players and is a better game for it.
